ANDY WARHOL: 15 MINUTES ETERNAL

"In the future, everybody will be world-famous for fifteen minutes." - Andy Warhol

Hello, You Tube!

Out On A Date at the Andy Warhol 15 Minutes Eternal
ArtScience Museum, Singapore

No photography allowed inside the exhibit.
So sa entrance lang kami nag-picture.

Hubby and I will be eternally grateful for having the chance to see the Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal exhibit at the ArtScience Museum. It features the largest collection of iconic works by pop artist Warhol, including Jackie, Marilyn Monroe, Campbell's Soup, Silver Liz, Time Capsule 51, The Last Supper.

It was such an overwhelming experience. We've always been Warhol fans. I love how he saw the beauty in everyday, ordinary objects. Pieces that we only got to see in books and the internet were 'in the flesh,' right before our eyes! Amazing.

The most revealing piece for me: The Time Capsules. They are boxes containing meaningful items collected by Warhol throughout different periods of his life. Although various studio assistants handled the boxes over the years, few people recognized the mass of materials as anything but "Andy's stuff." The boxes actually reveal new and important information about the artist's life. But only one box is open for viewing in this exhibit -- Box #51, which contains fashion magazines (including Vogue and Glamour) and fashion books.

There's a gift shop at the museum selling Warhol reprints. But Hubby and I opted to buy shirts from Uniqlo instead, see here.

Andy Warhol's Shoes
I have a hard-bound journal and stationary with this print.

The exhibit will be up until 12 August 2012.

Ticket price: SGD15 per adult (around Php480 each)

TRULY A TEAM

Hubby and I, we're my favorite team. Our collaborations at work, at home, and at play are always most fun and most fulfilling.

Here's one of our more recent team projects.

"Taylor Fit"

Written as a FB note by my Hubby

Posted last June 12, 2011

It was a fine Sunday afternoon, with the sunlight dappling through the trees, falling gently on the green grass, seemingly playing with the shadows. We were beneath a cool canopy, breaking the twigs beneath our feet, throwing fallen flowers into the air. It was one of those memorable days when you must have a camera in hand to capture those fleeting moments. And there I was, happily shooting with my camera, taking pictures of Taylor Swift.

Well, not exactly. I was shooting my niece, E. In a Taylor Swift-inspired photoshoot. In a photostory conjured by my wife, A. I wanted to practice my photography. She wanted to practice her styling. And our niece wanted to model. E was channeling Taylor Swift. A was channeling Rachel Zoe. I was channeling Parc Cruz. E posed, A styled, I clicked.

Yes, it was one of those days, when we do something we love with people we love, on a fine Sunday afternoon.

Model: E

Stylist, HMUA, Voice Activated Light Stand, My Wonder Woman Wife: A (Me: *kilig*)

Special thanks to our dear cousin, P, for making the shoot possible.

FIRST DAY OF FASHION SCHOOL

I'm so kilig! Today, for the very first time, J walked me to school, and picked me up after my class. This is a first for us. We met at work so we had no campus dates, walang ganitong mga eksena until now. Yihee!
J took a photo of me on our way to my school.
Taken along one of the Makati walkways.

I'm enrolled at the DFW: Designer Fashion Workshops, located at the iAcademy, along Ayala, just across the Triangle Gardens. After class, we have an excuse to try all the restos across the street. Yey!

Tonight, we were tempted to go back to Wee Nam Kee (we miss their Hainanese Chicken!). But decided to try something new -- Chef Laudico's BFast. As the name suggests, it's an all-day breakfast joint.
Above:
Of course, the adobo addict tried their adobo.
His bfast verdict: Matutulog na lang ako. Yawn.

Above: I had their salmon.
OK, nothing spectacular.

Above: The flourless chocolate cake.
(Cafe Bola's is still the best.)

Maybe next time we should order their best sellers, the "silogs." For today, we can't say breakfast is the new dinner. =(

As for my first day at Fashion School, it's confirmed, "Fashion is now in fashion!"

  12. More of the good stuff: good health, safe travels, fulfilling and rewarding careers, lots of love and laughter for all of us.

BEST OF BEIJING - 9

BEST KITSCHY BUY

A reproduction of Wang Guangyi’s** artwork. My eco-friendly shopping bag costs only RMB70 or PHP413, from a stall in Yandai Byway (shopping area near the Drum Tower).

BEST DUMPLING

I had dumplings and noodles every chance I got. The steamed pork soupy dumplings from one of the food stalls at the Oriental Plaza are THE BEST! (RMB 18 or PHP106.2 for six pcs.)

BEST SHOPPING MEMORY

An almost empty H&M at Qianmen Avenue. There were only around ten shoppers per floor (this branch had three floors) when we were there. There were no lines in the fitting room, at the cashier...Happiness!

Entrance to the Qianmen shopping area...

Lovely lamp along Emperor's Avenue...

**Wikipedia: Wang Guangyi (1956), is a Chinese artist known for being the leader of the New Art Movement circles that erupted out of China after 1989 and for his Great Criticism series of paintings, using the images of propaganda from the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) and contemporary brand names from western advertising. As an example, Artinfo notes that one of Wang Guangyis’s Great Criticism paintings “responds to the recent influx of advertising by juxtaposing the Coca-Cola logo with an image of a Chinese soldier, appropriating the visual iconography of both the Chinese Cultural Revolution and American pop art.”

SOLE MATES

Last weekend, my soulmate and I went to see the Alliance France's “Portraits of Shoes,” “Stepping Into Pinoy Style,” and Pete Jimenez' “If the Shoe Fits” exhibits at the Yuchengco Museum (Php 100/adult).

We love shoes. We recognize their power – to make and break outfits, to spell the difference between leisurely walks and painful travels, to make a statement, to offer a glimpse into a person's character, etc. We're interested in the rich shoe history – how it demonstrated social ranks, the Chinese custom of binding women's feet, the dynamics of shoes & worship, shoes & marriage, etc. We appreciate their beauty.

Step into our shoes...

His favorites:

  • Weejuns: his brown cowhide leather split-toed lace-ups
  • Two-toned brown-white wing-tipped brogue spectator shoes
  • White classic canvass sneakers
  • His very Mod brown suede Chukka boots
  • Black Beatle-boot a.k.a. The Chelsea

Searching for: (search ended on July 4, 2009! So happy for J!)

  • The perfect loafers for traveling across cultures; that may be used as day & night wear

My favorites:

  • Black classic ballet flats
  • Two-toned black-white brogue spectator heels
  • Gold strappy stilettos with cabbage roses

Searching for:

  • The most comfortable ballet flats – in all colors available
  • A childhood fantasy: my very own Cinderella glass slippers

J and I would never want to be in some other couple's shoes. We're happy in ours. We'll forever be each other's favorite "pair".

LOVE IS LIKE A RUNWAY...

A single girl's dating life does seem like a fashion runway (cue in music: Fergie's "Labels or Love"). I've walked that ramp and am glad to be off it. Not that it was a bad experience but like every fashion aficionado, I embrace the changing of seasons. Walking down the wedding aisle was so much better for me (cue in music: "Il Postino" theme song). Now, I'm happily sashaying through Philippine Fashion Week with my well-dressed J (cue in music: Suede's "Beautiful Ones").

On our side of the world, love will forever be in fashion!
